Keeping Your House Clean With Pets

With a little effort you should be able to keep your house clean, even if you have a small zoo living within your walls. Here are some simple things that you can do that will help you keep your house clean no matter how many pets you have.

Vacuum (a lot) – Vacuuming is better than sweeping for pet hair because sweeping just seems to spread fur all over the place. Vacuum on all of surfaces, including hardwood floors and tile – just turn the brush off to make sure you don’t damage your floors if you have a vacuum with the rotating brush assembly.

Brush your pets – If you’re lucky, you’re cats and dogs aren’t neurotic. Try to brush them daily to catch and gather their loose hair before it ends up all over the floor. A little brushing and grooming will go a long way in keeping your house clean, especially if you’re able to brush them outside.

Wipe those paws – If your cats or dogs go outside, be sure to wipe their feet before they come in, especially if it’s raining.

Buy or make a slipcover for your couch – If your vacuum doesn’t have an upholstery attachment for cleaning your furniture, you might want to consider a slipcover. Even the best vacuum technology on the market today is no match for a lot of dog and cat hair that get stuck in every fiber of your couch and chairs. The only solution for keeping your couch pet hair free is by covering it.

Choose your products wisely – Not all cleaning products are the same and you definitely don’t want to use any ammonia-based products on any accidents your pet might have in your house. Remember that dogs and cats are naturally inquisitive, so when you’re cleaning don’t leave any products laying around unattended. There are plenty of “earth-friendly” products that are free & clear of dyes and fragrances, but always take care when using any product around your pet.
